Encouraged by the depraved example of the platys, my mollies have started breeding too. I have a pair, who between them have produced about twelve fish babies in the past two weeks, and the female is set to spawn again any day according to local sources.
I'm starting to think a bigger tank is not the solution. I need to put bromide in the water.

on 2008-09-09 12:07 pm (UTC)It's a bromine atom with a charge of -1. It's typically present in saltwater and is used in compounds to make sedatives. During WWII it was used in liquid form to add to soldiers' tea because it was thought it helped reduce erections. I think that's true of most sedatives, though.
*takes of science hat*
Of course, my fishtank is freshwater, not saltwater, so they're obviously not getting their natural dose.
