Fish babies: the new atrocity

Encouraged by the depraved example of the platys, my mollies have started breeding too. I have a pair, who between them have produced about twelve fish babies in the past two weeks, and the female is set to spawn again any day according to local sources.

I'm starting to think a bigger tank is not the solution. I need to put bromide in the water.

What is bromide?

[identity profile] naomi-jay.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
*puts on science hat*

It's a bromine atom with a charge of -1. It's typically present in saltwater and is used in compounds to make sedatives. During WWII it was used in liquid form to add to soldiers' tea because it was thought it helped reduce erections. I think that's true of most sedatives, though.

*takes of science hat*

Of course, my fishtank is freshwater, not saltwater, so they're obviously not getting their natural dose.

By bromide, I think you mean bleach. Kill 'em all and start from scratch. ;)

J/K. Just dump 'em all and get a saltwater tank. :)

I did briefly consider flushing some of them down the toilet, but I couldn't have lived with myself. I'm just going to buy some angel fish and let them fight it out.

And then scrap the whole project for a saltwater tank?

or get some terrapins instead.

I say go w/ saltwater. Certain types of Coral are so pretty, especially under blacklight.
