On the breast.

By a wasp.

That somehow got into my Disturbed hoodie without me noticing. I was all innocently walking to the Co-op when I felt the sting and assumed I'd (somehow?) got like a bit of plant down there or something, not an unreasonable assumption given that my back garden currently looks something like this:

So I reached down my top and yanked the offending thing out only to discover a crushed wasp in my hand, at which point I freaked out a bit and wondered if I should call [livejournal.com profile] chaostheory in case I went into anaphylactic shock or something.

I didn't (call her or go into shock) but I did spend the rest of the evening in serious pain and slathered in Sudocrem. When I woke up, the swelling had gone down and I felt fine until after I showered. Now I feel all achy and light-headed. I don't know if that's related to the sting or not because I've never been stung before. It could all be in my imagination?

OMG! That's awful. I hope you feel better soon. That's scary. Oh, and I love your icon! :D

Thanks :) I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid and that my aches can be explained by my extremely uncomfortable bed!

It sounds like a normal reaction to pain and shock, but definitely keep an eye on yourself and be prepared to go to the doctor just in case. How horrible!

It was pretty unexpected. And I have a job interview this afternoon... I hope I don't swell up and collapse halfway through!

Stuff like this always seems to happen when you really need it not to. (By which I mean 'good luck with the interview!' :) )

Oh OWWWW!! I'm actually wincing in pain just from the thought of it, I'm so sorry you've gotten such an awful sting :( I hope it goes away/heals quickly and that you have a good interview.

Well I didn't pass out or throw up or anything, so I suspect I'm fine. Actually, I feel I was more on the ball than I usually am for interviews so maybe wasp venom is the way forward?

Ouch! I hope it feels better soon.

I think, if you have an allergic reaction, the symptoms begin fairly soon after.

I do remember having a similar rection to the one you mentioned when I was stung by a yellow jacket, but the symptoms went away after a day.

Yeah, I feel much better now than I did earlier in the day. It does still sting, but the dizziness has gone. Funny, I'm allergic to everything else on the planet, but not wasps, it seems!

Okay, if you're feeling better that's okay. :-) I was going to tell you to please go to the doctor, because not all allergic reactions are anaphylactic and dizziness is definitely a reaction.

I'm allergic to bee/wasp stings myself, luckily not life-threatening (as far as I know) but I certainly required medical treatment last time I was seriously stung. Which, interestingly enough, was also on the breast, and the stomach; a wasp fell down my swimsuit and stung me eight times in all before I managed to get the thing off and my dad drowned it (I was only nine). I was in terrible pain, I swelled up so bad it hurt to move.

It might be a good idea to even just go to Boots and ask the pharmacist if they can recommend an allergy medication, or take whatever you usually take. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm glad you're okay!

Thanks :) Apart from some itching, it's now fine, and the sting is barely visible. Luckily our house is full of allergy treatments and antihistimines since I'm allergic to cats, aerosols, and pretty much all types of plant and grass pollen and live next door to a florist, lol.

Tell everyone it's a vampire bite and see who believes you.

If you feel okay now there's probably nothing to worry about. Over-the-counter remedies can help (try an antihistamine for itchiness and anti inflammatory like ibuprofen for swelling and pain). When I was a kid I remember wasp stings hurting incredibly badly, but they don't seem to any more.

My last wasp sting barely hurt at all, but my God it itched. The little bugger had crawled into my bed and got stuck under the duvet. Actually, that's happened to me twice... now I sleep with windows shut!

Yeah, mine just itches now, nothing else. You can barely even see it, so now I can't even have the fun of passing it off as a vampire bite.
