Guess where I got stung last night?
Jul. 31st, 2009 08:59 amOn the breast.
By a wasp.
That somehow got into my Disturbed hoodie without me noticing. I was all innocently walking to the Co-op when I felt the sting and assumed I'd (somehow?) got like a bit of plant down there or something, not an unreasonable assumption given that my back garden currently looks something like this:

So I reached down my top and yanked the offending thing out only to discover a crushed wasp in my hand, at which point I freaked out a bit and wondered if I should call
chaostheory in case I went into anaphylactic shock or something.
I didn't (call her or go into shock) but I did spend the rest of the evening in serious pain and slathered in Sudocrem. When I woke up, the swelling had gone down and I felt fine until after I showered. Now I feel all achy and light-headed. I don't know if that's related to the sting or not because I've never been stung before. It could all be in my imagination?

I do remember having a similar rection to the one you mentioned when I was stung by a yellow jacket, but the symptoms went away after a day.

on 2009-07-31 08:32 pm (UTC)I'm allergic to bee/wasp stings myself, luckily not life-threatening (as far as I know) but I certainly required medical treatment last time I was seriously stung. Which, interestingly enough, was also on the breast, and the stomach; a wasp fell down my swimsuit and stung me eight times in all before I managed to get the thing off and my dad drowned it (I was only nine). I was in terrible pain, I swelled up so bad it hurt to move.
It might be a good idea to even just go to Boots and ask the pharmacist if they can recommend an allergy medication, or take whatever you usually take. Just my opinion, of course.
I'm glad you're okay!

on 2009-08-01 01:24 pm (UTC)If you feel okay now there's probably nothing to worry about. Over-the-counter remedies can help (try an antihistamine for itchiness and anti inflammatory like ibuprofen for swelling and pain). When I was a kid I remember wasp stings hurting incredibly badly, but they don't seem to any more.
My last wasp sting barely hurt at all, but my God it itched. The little bugger had crawled into my bed and got stuck under the duvet. Actually, that's happened to me twice... now I sleep with windows shut!
