So says Cajun Book Lady, who reviewed it. Huzzahs! Ice cream for everyone, especially since it's a beautiful ice creamy day in Cambridge.

"I read this all in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down."

Further huzzahs! I still find it so surreal that this is my book people are talking about, something I wrote. It just seems... bizarre. Anyway, I shall celebrate by heading into town to buy birthday presents for my brothers, and possibly treat myself to a smoothie from the market or something. Cambridge has suddenly turned all spring-like, which makes me very happy. Birds are singing, the sun is shining, everything smells like fresh-cut grass, and I haven't had any hayfever yet. Plus, we have no more workshops at work for a couple of months, which means I will be free from professors stopping me on the street asking me about the broadband connection in their houses (presumably).

I feel really energised today. I'm going to meet up with Pip and watch lots of Lost and drink lots of wine and plan lots of writing. For I shall return to writing on Monday. The plan is to finish the Ethan novella, Demonised, over the next couple of weeks and be ready to start writing BAD DOGS at the start of May. Based on the reviews for SILVER KISS so far, I feel I have a lot to live up to...

The good people at Damnation Books have decided to push forward the release of AFTERLIFE to December 1st 2009.

That's December 1st 2009, people. That's when my debut novel will be published. December 1st 2009. Me. My novel. AFTERLIFE. Published. As in, you can buy it and stuff.

Holy crap.

That's really not that far away! I wish wasn't at work surrounded by distinguised Japanese astrophysicists so I could jump around and scream like a crazy person. My debut novel will be published before the end of the year. I cannot say it enough! Expect shameless promotion and hopefully some giveaways to follow as I work through edits and gear up for release and generally wander through El Jay Land singing "AFTERLIFE will be publised on 1st December 2009, lalala!"

Speaking of which - anyone got thoughts on promotion? What you like, what you don't like, what might be fun? I've done giveaways in the past, and would like to do more if people are interested and it ties into AFTERLIFE's release.

That's AFTERLIFE, by the way. The debut novel by Naomi Clark, the woman who bought you ... um ... Apocalypse Squid. 1st December 2009. Totally buyable.

So I get up stupidly early this morning because I have to be at work for 8.30 to open up. I'm tired because sleeping on a bed propped up only by a box of vinyl records is uncomfortable. I'm irate, because it's Monday morning and there are no clean cereal bowls in the kitchen (I suppose that's my own fault for not washing up the night before, but whatever). I'm lethargic because the very thought of going to work saps all the energy from me.

But I pull myself together and head for work anyway. And then I get a flat tire halfway down Huntingdon Road, so I have to walk the rest of the way to work. I'm late. I'm unimpressed. I hate the world. Everything sucks, especially me.

And then I check my emails. And Damnation Books have offered me a contract for AFTERLIFE! Squee! Cue me going into panic mode, as I always do when these things happen, running out of the building with much flapping of hands and generally not believing it. I am SO stoked about this - I adore AFTERLIFE - it's one of my favourite things I've written, with some of my favourite characters - and I'm really impressed by Damnation Books, so this is awesome. AWESOME.

Stop everything! Seriously, stop. Listen to me.

I'm beyond excited to announce that QueeredFiction have contracted me for two more Ayla/Shannon novels to follow up SILVER KISS!

You heard me right - that's three Ayla/Shannon novels altogether, to be published over 2010 and 2011. That ringing you hear in your ears is the fading echoes of my thrilled screams of joy :D

I honestly can't tell you how pleased and proud I am. I loved writing SILVER KISS and exploring the characters and world more, I love writing about werewolves, and I love that I've now got the chance to write even more.

All I need now is a series title. Suggestions on a postcard, please...

I rule!

I've written exactly 5k on SILVER KISS today:

37033 / 60000 words. 62% done!

How cool is that? I think I've earned a Matt Berry-style treat. In fact, we all have! Enjoy.

Later in the week I will do a full round-up of the RNA conference. After I've figured out how to permanently fix my bed and after I've figured out how much damage I did my mobile broadband dongle by dumping a cup of hi-juice on it. For now, the highlights:

1. Spending time with the lovely and talented [info]madlee276, and catching up on how amazingly well she's doing (can't wait to go stay with her in August!).

2. Meeting loads of new writers at all stages of their careers, which was truly motivational.

3. Catching up with people I met last year, like Kate Johnson and Imogen Howson.

4. Packing away about a year's worth of wine. Still feeling slightly soused, actually.

5. Getting so many freebies! Seriously, my bookcases are now overflowing even more than they were before I left, which is saying something.

6. Being invited to Texas by Jodi Thomas, who is incredibly funny, by the way. I really hope Leanne and I can sort something out so we can go.

It was all over far too quickly, and before I knew it, I was home again. The fish either instantly forgave me for leaving them or didn't notice I was gone; I'm not sure which.

I have to be honest, getting home again was a bit of a let-down since it was straight back to work yesterday. I'm seriously debating right now how much longer I want to go on working in an office and stealing time for writing around that. I have my annual review with the Director next Monday and one of things we're discussing is my "career progression." I feel like it might be rude to tell him I never intended to stay at the Institute this long and that I'm desperately seeking an escape route as we speak. Is there an elegant way to slide "paid sabbatical" into the conversation? I plan to find out.
