Day Two (or technically three, I suppose, but second full day) of Fergus's Big Adventure. On his first night he was incredibly clingy and slept with me, and tried to get in the shower with me in the morning, but last night he was feeling a bit more confident and slept in the hall (although he did keep poking his head round the corner to check I was still in the bed where he'd left me). He's been incredibly well-behaved. I had visions of coming home to a house destroyed by his attempts to escape, but he seems to have spent most of his time napping upstairs. He's eating (my parents were worried he wouldn't) and he's even deigned to sit on my lap, although he's not a natural lap cat. He always looks slightly awkward, like he knows it's something cats should do, but he's not entirely down with it.

Anyway. Today when I got home I decided it might be safe to let him out. I was planning to keep him in for at least a week, but I imagine being stuck in the house twenty-four hours a day is pretty tedious if you don't have a laptop, so I thought, why not? I opened the door for him. He stuck his head out, sniffed, and ran upstairs. I tried again later and he ventured as far as the doorstep before some magical thing that only cats see happened, and then he ran upstairs again. This is so unlike Fergus. He's really not an indoor cat. I was worried he'd hurt himself trying to get out (it has happened. There was a leg cast involved). I'd like to think it's because he loves me so much he can't bear to leave me, but I suspect it's because Milton is downwind of a rubbish dump and the smell is offensive to a cat's sensitive nose. Either way, I'm very amused and charmed by his shenanigans. The snakes remain unimpressed.

He's so cute! :)

I'm so glad he's eating because that always worries me when it comes to cats and new environments.

I don't think our cat ever tried to get into the shower with me. I know he likes playing in the bathtub by himself though. lol

My childhood cat used to sleep in the bath. He used to get quite grumpy when you moved him!

Spunky likes to sleep at the foot of the bed and don't try to move him. He's tried to bite me a few times. lol

"some magical thing that only cats see"

Dragons. Is all. They come inside sometimes, too.
