Reopening the veins
Dec. 27th, 2010 05:58 pmSo, after a few lazy Christmas days, I'm back at work today. I've combed through 30 pages of edits on DEMONISED and written 1661 words for Halflife. I'm feeling quite good about it all, although I am worried about some of the DEMONISED edits. Ethan has a very distinctive voice that means the novella has a lot of choppy sentence fragments. My editor has marked these for changing, which I don't want to do because, while they may not be grammatically correct, they are Ethan's voice, and I don't want to lose that. So I'm stetting a lot of stuff. Hopefully my editor doesn't take it personally.
Meanwhile, in another part of the Shoregrave world, Yasmin is battling the evils of TV crews and a haunted fish processing plant. As you do.
I'm loving today. I love not being at work. I had a really long lazy bath with one of my Christmas books and a Lush bubble bath bar, I went food shopping (back on the Harcombe diet today, too many helpings of pudding over Christmas), and I have been productive writing-wise. I want my life to be like this always!
Kyle has a job interview up in Bolton in the New Year. That's pretty much the opposite end of the country to us, where living is cheaper and there's the possibility of me being able to work part-time. I have to confess, as much as part of me wants to stay in Cambridge forever with my family and friends, that idea is very, very attractive. Especially on days like today where I've been really productive. And Bolton is about as far away from the Institute as I could get, so that would solve my job issue quite neatly. So. We'll see.
