Okay, I'm just going to throw this out there and see what comes back.

I'm very keen on putting together an anthology to raise some money for the Depression Alliance. Who's with me?

I'm just trying to gauge interest at this stage - do people think it's doable/worthwhile/interesting? I'm thinking it would be an ebook, as resources, time, and finances allow, and I thinking I'd be looking for urban fantasy/paranormal romance in terms of genre, since that's what I like to read (although I'm open to suggestions). Does anyone have any tips or hints for this sort of thing? I'm pretty confident in my skills as a writer (meaning I only meltdown and decide I'll never make it one a month now), but as an anthologist? Eek.

So what do people think? Is this a good idea or what?

I think it's doable and wouldn't cost you anything but time and energy. You'd have to give non-exclusive contracts, I think, so that people could also sell their stories elsewhere. (That's how the I Do anthologies work.) Otherwise people are more reluctant to give their work away for free :)

Ah, see this is the kind of advice I need! :)

I'd love to hear more. :)

It sounds doable to me.

I think this is a great idea. Best of luck with it.

Would you want stories dealing with the subject of depression? Or specify another theme? Or just any urban fantasy/paranormal romance?

I've got a theme in mind that makes sense (in my head) but I don't think it would directly be dealing with depression. And I'd probably be open to genres other than UF/PR, like sci-fi or steampunk, or whatever, as long as they stuck to the theme. I'll have to think about that a bit more.

Yes. And Horatio approves of this idea too. I've done this a few times, so you can pick my brains over anything and everything.

I think it sounds like a noble idea, but there's an awful lot of work involved.

Yep, which is why I want to A) Get a feel for how many people think it's worthwhile before I start and B) Spread the work over a long period of time, lol.

It'd be an aweful lot of work for you Sunshine, but it sounds like a good idea. What'd your theme be?

I'm thinking it'd be along the line of psychics, which could cover a pretty broad spectrum, really.

If you need technical and production help, do say.

I've up-to-date DTP software and the skills to use it and huge amounts of experience in generating usable (and hopefully pretty) PDFs if you go that route. Can do printed books, but my contacts with local printers are woefully out of date.

And I've the editing and proofing experience, too.

Since it's a good cause, and the genre's not one I write so I'm unlikely to submit anything (let alone anything good), I'd happily help out.

Tech help would definitely be needed! Cheers :)

Cool! Mind if I add you as a friend? I'll be setting up an lj community in the next week or so to deal with this properly.

Found this courtesy of dwg's journal.

I'd definately be up for the challenge.
Just a couple questions:

- Is there a wordcap/how many words?
- Will every submission be in, or is there a selection criteria?

Also, I'm going to add you as a friend if you don't mind. Otherwise, I'll never keep track of this. ^__-

Hiya :) Add away! I'm going to set up a comm in the near future so I can keep track of everything too!

There will be a wordcap, but I've not decided what it will be yet. And there will be a selection criteria - beyond the standard things like proper grammar and spelling (coz I am a Grammar Nazi), there are some genre tropes I just find too prevalent, and I'd like to see some fresh takes.

Anyway, I'll clarify all this over the next week or so. Thanks for your interest!
