The Shoregrave Guide says: Like their progeny, cambions, succubi are not classed as undead, but do dwell on the mortal plain as well as the Netherworld, and thus are included here. Of course, legends of these demons abound, and there is little to be added here. As the stories suggest, they feed on sexual energy and are capable of killing a human through sexual contact. They are one of the few species of demon allowed to cross from the Netherworld, as their existence is dependent on mortal contact.

Contrary to legend, these demons are not shapeshifters, but are generally human in appearance. In keeping with legends, they do visit human males at night - perhaps the source of so many "night hag" experiences. On rare occasions, they are able to reproduce with humans, but as the children always appear stillborn, it is impossible to know how many half-succubi exist on the mortal plain.

Yasmin Stoker says: My fear of Melusine was completely irrational. She'd never offered me harm, never threatened me, never done anything to make me afraid. But I was still scared of her, because she was a succubus, part of the Netherworld. You trod carefully around the creatures of the Netherworld, or you suffered.
