This either explains a lot about monkeys, or a lot about Metallica...

Personally, I fear chimpanzees as they feed into my whole weird phobia about things that look human but aren't. Like androids, puppets*, and mannequins. Chimps register somewhere in the middle of all this - I fear them more than puppets but less than androids, because they're creepy and smart and they eat each other. Too human. But these little tamarinds? So cute! I can't believe they're soothed by Metallica - Metallica make me want to run down the street wielding a baseball bat screaming, "you're a twat, Lars, and you know you are!" at the top of my lungs.

Still, I guess it's another important study, right? Like turning chicken embryos into dinosaurs for no reason.

*I also fear the Metallica song "Master of Puppets."

This icon is so weirdly appropriate for this discussion.

...it might depend on what Metallica they're listening to? Because everyone agrees that St Anger was a travesty and maybe the monkeys would go 28 Days Later on their researchers if played that.

Science could be trying to decide what other human bodyparts to grow on mice, I mean, we've got an ear and some teeth now.

A scientific study that I'd like to conduct is how Metallica and other musicians wrote better songs when they were raging addicts and drunks than now when they've dried out. Yay for cleaning up and all, and obviously there are some musicians that have gotten better because of it, BUT I AM MOSTLY LOOKING AT YOU METALLICA. WHAT HAPPENED?

And then we can see how good being clean and sober does them while we chase them down the street with baseball bats and yelling verbal abuse.

Is the picture on that article a 'spot the difference'?

I think you need to go into more detail on the naomi_jay heirarchy of fear. So far we have androids > monkeys > puppets...

Basically it goes: androids > monkeys > puppets > cockroaches > clowns > small children > nuclear war. Like any sensible person, I have my priorities straight.

Ah, good old Uncanny Valley. Oddly enough I have a bit of a quirk for puppets, clowns, androids, robots, mannequins etc. but find monkeys really unpleasant, even the 'cute' ones. I put it down to waaay too many 'starts in a genetics lab' zombie films...

Definitely. The start of 28 Days Later scarred me for life.
