April Reading

For reasons best known to ... myself, I suppose, I read a lot of vampire books last month. I've got a bit of a love/hate relationship with vampire books - LKH scarred me deeply, but Richelle Mead and Jocelynn Drake have restored my faith somewhat.

So, Michele Hauf's The Devil to Pay was first. Apparently this is part of a longer series, but it read fine as a stand-alone. Witches vesus vampires with the Devil Himself thrown in. I really like these Silhouette Nocturnes - they're fun, easy reads, and I'm really glad I tripped over Hauf's work. I'll be looking for the rest of this series.

Next, Richelle Mead's Shadow Kiss. All I can say about this book is OH MY GOD, RICHELLE, SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!! Blood Promise can't come soon enough. I love Rose, and in the third Vampire Academy book she kicks ass and gets hers kicked in return. I really think these are the best vampire books around at the moment, YA or otherwise.

I read these two back-to-back and umm... They're entertaining. Total fluff, a Mary-Sue heroine who's too good to be true, but still, they're oddly addictive and I really enjoyed them. One of the plot twists in Betrayed was a bit out of left-field for me, but I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up Chosen just to see which of the three possible love interests Zoey ends up with.

I started this in March and finished it last month, so it's technically an April book. I loved Jenna Maclaine's story, and Caitlin R Tiernan's second entry. Lilith Saintcrow's A Standup Dame was one of my favourites - reminding me I still haven't picked up her Jill Kismet books. Some of the stories were a bit weak, but overall it was a good collection. Now we just need a Mammoth Book of Werewolf Romance. One I can contribute to!

Oh, look. No vampires! Demons instead! I got these sometime last year; I've no idea why it took me this long to read them. I loved Lucien and Anya's story, but Reyes and Danika? AMAZING. Can't wait for The Darkest Whisper, although I hope Gideon isn't getting his own book since I just find him intolerably annoying.
