Still no Ket

Apologies to my flist if my blog just becomes an endless series of updates on how Ket is still missing. We tidied the house from top to bottom today and still no sign of him. I've set up a box with a mouse in it that he could get into but not out of, and we're keeping the house cold except for the corner where the box is, hoping he'll head for the heat source. I am absolutely hating the idea of going to work tomorrow without knowing where he is. I guess the only consolation is that corn snakes are very hardy and can go for up to a year outside their tank without food, and that a lot of people find their snakes reappear months later, safe and sound. And that means Ket is probably not suffering anywhere near as much as I am right now.

 

The work rolls on...

Well, I haven't spent the entire weekend looking for snakes under fridges. I've also done some work on Night and Chaos and added a few thousand more words to it. I decided after much consideration not to worry about character names at this stage; I'm going to get the first draft done and then hope a few helpful beta readers will help me solve the Ryan-as-a-girl's-name issue (although yolandasfetsos  did kindly point me towards a sight that proves Ryan is a girl's name, so there).

Anyway, here's the word count thus far:

I'm doing a ton of research on this whole Kindle publishing deal. It's pretty overwhelming, but I'm determined to at least experiment. When I started Night and Chaos a couple of years ago, I always envisioned it as a series of novellas, and I figure I have nothing to lose by self-publishing them, and potentially a lot to gain. So this is my focus for the rest of October. Ideally I'd like a first draft done before Anti-Nano starts and I get consumed by Halflife. It's not impossible, right?
