The Other Boleyn Girl/NaNo Stats
Nov. 8th, 2007 08:08 am I'm about half way through Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl (thank you for recommending it, Leanne!) and loving it. It's reminding me why I loved history so much at school. It's also making me kind of worried about the upcoming film version, with Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson. I saw Elizabeth: The Golden Age last week, and although it was a fabulous film, they really had played fast and loose with some of the historical elements. I mean, it's been a few years since I did history, but I'm pretty sure Sir Walter Raleigh wasn't at sea when the Spanish Armada thing went down. So yeah, I am worried how the Tudor court will fair on the big screen. Especially as (and no offence to my American brethren) I can't really buy Scarlet Johansson as an English rose. She just looks too much like a twenty-first century girl.
I also saw a trailer for Beowulf, which I really wanted to see up until that moment. Why anyone would think Ray Winston capable of portraying himself as anything other than a gruff, stocky Cockney is beyond me. It was bad enough when he was Henry VIII ("Oi, Kafferine! Gimme a son!") but a viking?!?
Anyway, here are your intermittant NaNo stats:
Total wordcount: 14338
Enter, stage left: Ethan Banning, PI! He smokes, he swears, he says things like "look lady, you better not be bullshitting me." *I heart private eyes*
Reeking of awesomeness: Yasmin spends some time in the spectral realm, Nicomedes has pet snakes called Cerelia and Vespa.
Reeking of sucktitude: I've belatedly realised my spectral realm is heavily influenced by Soul Reaver. I feel I should be over my obsession with that game by now. And yet...
Tonight I am mostly listening to: Caroline Lavelle - Brilliant Midnight.
Crippley hand status: My right wrist is very tender and it's painful to push doors open with it.
