I'm now sure my 60k estimate is conservative, since the book is sprouting subplots like the potatoes in my kitchen are sprouting roots. I'm finding a lot more angst and drama to throw at Ayla and Shannon than I'd originally planned. I'm not too worried by that though; I don't think going over my estimate is a bad thing unless what I'm writing is actually rubbish, and at this stage I don't think it is. Of course, that's why you have beta readers and critique partners, right? So they can tell you it is actually rubbish.
